A Movement and a Counter-Movement

Welcome to the 350yoga blog.
NASA climatologist James Hansen said that 350ppm of co2 is the number that we must get back down to in order to keep the earth functioning as it has for all of history. In the past 18 months scientists have noticed that changes are happening faster than expected. The matter is urgent.

Yet, how do we act and create fundamental shifts in our imaginations and practices to realign our global spine stretching ourselves farther than we thought possible, while keeping our eyes soft, throat passive, breath flowing? At this point it's not about recycling and changing lightbulbs. For fundamental shifts to occur we need to imagine a new world.
The first step is getting the word out about 350.

October 24 of this year is the international day of action in communities all over the globe to raise awareness prior to climate negotiations in Copenhagen in December.

350.org, orchestrated by Bill McKibben, and global network of organizers are calling for creative local actions to get the word out.

My name is David Westerlund. I'm a citizen of Bellingham, Washington, USA and I am organizing a local pre-Oct24 event with Robin duPre to gain momentum for October.

I was walking down the street several weeks ago and it occured to me that the shape we embody when we practice the Down Dog pose is the same shape of the graph of co2 levels over the last 20 years (rising) and then where we need to go (falling). so I figured -- why not be the change we want to see.

So if you live in Bellingham please join us on Monday, June 29 at 6pm at the Fairhaven Village Green where you can be a part of 350 of us joining the DownDog trend. : )

If you live outside of Bellingham, I encourage you to organize a local event in your community. Plant a seed. Collaborate. Watch what emerges.
